5 Simple Self-Care Rituals - Nourish Your Skin, Body and Mind

Updated: Apr 25, 2019

Self-care is incredibly important if we want to live our very best lives. Sadly, sometimes it takes hitting total burnout to realise self love isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Don’t wait until you’re tired, stressed and overworked to give yourself permission to take time for you. Self-care doesn’t have to mean spending an entire week at an expensive retreat or hours and hours pampering yourself. By adding simple self-care to your daily or weekly schedule, you can make looking after yourself a habit and a reminder life is about more than just crossing tasks off your to-do list! Here are a few ideas to squeeze a little ‘you’ time into your regular schedule.

Soak in the tub with a luxe DIY bath soak

It’s classic self-care 101; a soak in the bath after a long day. Turn the indulgence up a notch with a glass of wine and a DIYskin saving bath soak straight from the kitchen. Grind ½ a cup of raw oatmeal and combine with 1-2 cups of milk and a tablespoon of honey. Add the mixture to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes. This beautiful combo of simple ingredients will leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and soothe irritated, itchy skin.

Spend 15 minutes decluttering your space

If you’re a little confused on how cleaning can become self-care (isn’t it a chore?!) hear us out. When done right, decluttering and cleaning your space can have a calming effect on your mind. Cluttered, messy spaces can make it difficult for us to relax, both mentally and physically. This doesn’t leave much room unwind or feel creative. Spend a little time each day tidying and decluttering the area of your home where you spend most of your time. You’ll feel tension in your body and mind fade.Need some inspiration? Check out these 10 minute decluttering challenges.

Turn your morning skin care routine into a self-care

For most of us, applying skin care is a vital part of our morning routine. Why not take the opportunity to turn it into a mini self-care session? It’s also a time to take pause and check in on any physical changes going on with your body. Ditch synthetic, chemical concoctions in favor of natural skin care to properly nourish and indulge your skin. Piling toxins on your face every morning isn’t a gentle way to care for your complexion and can do more damage than good over time. When you apply your moisturizing cream or face oil, take the time to give yourself a simple, 90 second facial massage. It helps relieve any jaw tension and freshen your complexion by improving blood flow to your face.

Give yourself permission not to feel motivated ALL the time

Looking after your mental health is one of the most important aspects of self-care. There are times when we all need to rest our minds; it may mean taking a break from pushing ourselves to be on top of our game 24/7. Recognize times when you need to allow yourself to slow down mentally and not feel guilty about it! Forget about your to-do list for a day, the world won’t end if you push pause and take a mental break.

Sip tea before bed

Quality sleep is essential for our bodies and minds to function optimally. If you only choose one way to fit self-care into your life, ensure you’re getting quality sleep on a regular basis should be it. How we spend our evenings directly impact show restful our sleep is, which in turn influences our energy and mood the following day. To invite a good night sleep in, create a self-care ritual of drinking a decaffeinated herbal tea before bed. Chamomile and passion fruit teas have a sedative and calming effect and sipping on either make an incredibly comforting nighttime ritual. Turn bedtime tea into habit and even the act of pouring yourself a cup may help send a signal to your body it’s time to relax and unwind. We hope these ideas have inspired you to nourish your mind and body regularly with the self-care you deserve!
